New Zealand Defence Force
Nov ‘08 - Dec ‘09
For New Zealand Defence Force, I led the Logistics Transformation Programme for 14 months, from inception through to establishment of the new Logistics Commander and his core team. Logistics represents a third of the NZDF across Army, Navy and Air Force, comprising over 4.500 military and civilian people.
Through the Investigation Phase, I was responsible for the development of a comprehensive investment case, examining a number of strategic design options, before leading the ELT through a decision-making process that delivered a landmark decision: to extract “depth” logistics out of the three services and HQ and create a new logistics delivery organisation under a single commander. This new organisation will comprise approximately 2,000 people with an annual operating budget of over $250m.
To establish the organisation and deliver the identified $50m of sustainable benefits, I built a team of senior military and civilian NZDF logisticians under the new Logistics Commander (a 1-star General) who will execute the 3-year roadmap created for the investment case. I then led the programme through the first 6 months of the Implementation Phase through detailed planning and early design workshops, to ensure the team is established for success.
